When Parents Seek a Youth Therapist in Mississauga
Being a teen comes with its own set of challenges. Whether you’re dealing with social anxiety, academic stress, friendship conflicts, or simply feeling overwhelmed, our therapists provide a space where you’re truly heard. We start by building a genuine connection and a judgment-free zone before working on strategies that fit your life.
Parents often come to us saying:
“I just want to know what’s going on with my teen; they’ve completely shut down.”
“The pressure of school and social media is becoming too much for them.”
“They are constantly putting off assignments because they are too anxious about making mistakes.”
“Their attention is fractured between homework, notifications, and gaming; they can’t sit still.”
“Their mood swings are intense, and we don’t know how to communicate anymore.”
“They wait until the last minute for everything, and the stress is paralyzing them.”
Evidence-Based Approaches for Adolescents
We address these concerns with proven methods tailored to your stage of life, including:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Identifies and changes the negative thought patterns that fuel anxiety and low mood.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT): Builds practical skills to manage intense emotions, reduce stress, and improve relationships.
Collaborative Family Support: Strengthens family communication so youth and parents feel understood and supported.
You don’t have to navigate this alone. Together, we’ll build the confidence and tools you need for a healthier future.

Frequently Asked Questions
If your adolescent has withdrawn from family or friends, shown lasting changes in mood, sleep, or appetite, is struggling at school, or seems overwhelmed by anxiety or anger, therapy can help. You don’t need a crisis to reach out — many families start therapy simply to give their teen a supportive space to talk.
Our adolescent and youth therapy in Mississauga is designed for children and teens aged 10 and older, as well as young adults navigating the transition into adulthood.
It depends on your teen’s needs and age. We often begin with a parent consultation, then meet one-on-one with your adolescent to build trust. We also offer collaborative family sessions to strengthen communication when that’s helpful.
We use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for anxiety and low mood, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS for managing intense emotions, and collaborative family support — tailored to each young person.

Simply book a session through our website or contact our office. We’ll start with a brief consultation to understand your teen’s needs and match them with the right therapist.
Sessions are a calm, judgment-free space where your teen can talk at their own pace. Early meetings focus on building trust and understanding what’s going on. From there, the therapist introduces practical tools for managing anxiety, low mood, stress, or relationships, and works toward goals your teen helps set. Sessions run about 50 minutes, and we keep parents appropriately informed while respecting your teen’s privacy.
We share session fees during your initial consultation. Because our therapists are registered with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), many extended health benefit plans reimburse psychotherapy, so it’s worth checking whether your plan covers a Registered Psychotherapist. We provide receipts you can submit for insurance claims.
Ontario has no fixed minimum age for consenting to counselling; what matters is whether the young person is capable of understanding the decision. In practice we usually involve parents or guardians, especially for younger teens, while still protecting your teen’s privacy. We talk through consent and confidentiality with your family at the first session. (This is general information, not legal advice.)
Reluctance is very common and completely normal. It often helps to frame therapy as a supportive, no-pressure space rather than a sign that something is wrong. We offer a free 15-minute consultation so your teen can get a feel for it first, and our therapists are experienced at building rapport with hesitant teens at their own pace.
It varies with each young person’s goals and needs. Some teens feel meaningful relief in a handful of sessions focused on a specific issue, while others benefit from longer-term support. We review progress regularly and adjust the plan with you and your teen, so therapy lasts as long as it’s genuinely helpful and no longer.
